MOTHEO EDUCATION RESOURCE CENTRE
Learning is achieving.
PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND
To increase the access to and use of learning and teaching resources through the Education Resource Centres. (ERC)
The Motheo ERC is situated at the heart of the Free State Province in the capital city of Bloemfontein. It was established in January 2005 with only one staff member; it now boasts twelve staff members. It has grown from strength to strength and now handles an influx of officials of the FS Department of Education and members of the community who utilise the centre for meetings, workshops and launches such as the Mobile Library Project and the Literacy and Numeracy Strategy launches.
- Establish and maintain Education Resource Centres and their satellites.
- Provide access to facilities and learning and teaching resources.
- Ensure the use of the facilities and the resources.
Motheo ERC incorporates facilities such as the hall which accommodates up to 500 people, two computer laboratories with sixty computers, a library and fully equipped Life Sciences and Physical Science laboratories. There are a state of the art committee room and a boardroom that are used by Head Office staff for meetings. A fully revamped kitchen is used for catering purposes.
Eleven classrooms are used for teacher and learner workshops for different training according to their educational needs and to improve learning and teaching in schools. Such training has contributed to the high pass rate of this district, making it the best-performing district in the Province.
