In 2013 the South African government approved the white paper on Post School Education and Training, which saw the migration of Community Colleges ( commonly known as night schools) from provincial education departments to the National Department of Higher Education.
Today, the community of Reitz, in the Nketoana Municipality joined Minister Blade Ndzimande at the launch and sod-turning ceremony of the Free State Community Education and Training College, currently known as the Tjheseho Community Slot88 Gacor Learning Centre which will, as of the 1st of January 2025, be completed to host 5000 students in the state of the art facility. This is the first of it’s kind in the country, and as MEC Mohale put it “ALL good things begin in the Free State!”
Community Colleges aim to be inclusive. They are for those who’ve never set foot in a school, have dropped out and want to continue- at any level. If you want to upgrade matric results, community colleges offer the National Senior Certificate. They are also for the well educated who wish to acquire a specific skill- be it welding, electricity, plumbing, baking, etc. Community colleges can also be seen as a launch pad for TVET and University education. ABET levels 1 -3 are also available in our community colleges.
“What a way to celebrate 30 years of Democracy! Following the Community Education and Training Summit, I allocated 200 million rands through the National Skills Fund, towards the building of community colleges to ensure that such institutions provide short skills development programmes. This building which is at 70% completion is the first ever physical structure owned by a community college in the country and we are doing it in the Free State.
This college will be the hub of Agricultural studies and will be offering piggery, poultry and vegetable farming. Through a fruitful partnership with Wholesale & Retail Seta (W&RSeta) we want to enhance the standing of community colleges in our country. Take care of this facility. To destroy Education infrastructure is counter revolutionary!” – Minister Blade Ndzimande.
As the department of basic Education in the Free State we are positively anticipating the completion of this project so that those that exit our system, with excellent results or not, can further expand and enhance their skills.
