In 2017, the HOD of Education Advocate Malakoane’s visit- accompanied by Senior Managers to Sao Paulo in Brazil, culminated into the education skills revolution that is unfolding today.
Mangaung Vocational Skills School has now been birthed out of rich engagements with the Brazilian government, where learners from grades 8 in our schools will be afforded the opportunity for multi- certification in a cross section of skills from Welding, automotive repairs, plumbing & construction, refrigeration, biomedical equipment maintenance and many more.
In this pilot programme; starting with Bainsvlei Combined school, learners will one day in a week be taking these classes. The current intake is 60 learners per week, with the intention of eventually having a fully-fledged vocational school.
“Education must be deliberate and intentional. We are in the process of establishing a stand-alone academy togel where learners can have an opportunity to end their school careers with more than just a National Senior Certificate but skills that will enable them to start successfully run and economically viable businesses” – Adv. Malakoane.
MEC Mohale’s passion for ‘economic emancipation through education’, is seen coming to life through this institution, “We need to ensure that learners acquire skills that will not only empower them in this fast changing world but that will also close the economic gaps in this province and country”.
The Department is working towards grooming the learners that come out of this programme to enter the World Skills Competition , a ground-breaking initiative dedicated to advancing Vocational Education and Training (VET) across the continent and the world!
