Honourable Minister, Prof. Blade Nzimande addressing guests at the launch of the National Science Week
The launch of the National Science Week got off to a great start on 28 September at the Central University of Technology (CUT) in Bloemfontein.
At the launch, Honourable Minister Blade Nzimande from the leading the Department of Science and Innovation, declared Science Week officially open.
Celebrating the Science Week with the theme, “Living in a high-tech world: Should we be concerned?”, the launch will be followed by various science activities for learners and individuals to engage on during focus week.
The National Science Week seeks to create awareness about STEM subjects and participation of learners in these subjects, as well as learning skills for the changing world.
“You are living in a democratic society, therefore you have no excuse not to get an education and once you have it, no one can take it away from you. You do not have to fear maths and science, if you work hard you can be able to master these subjects. Ten to fifteen years from now, most of the learners in here attending National Science Week should be so inspired with what they have learned today that they they know they can also be become scientists in the future, it’s possible!”, said Prof. Nzimande.
