The Chief Directorate: District Management successfully hosted three major activities in alignment with Priority 4 of the education sector, which focuses on improving access to and the quality of training and professional development for School -Management Team (SMT) members.

Program for Aspiring School Principals (Sunday, 22 September 2022 – Friday, 27 September 2024):
This program, hosted at Kopano Nokeng, enrolled 100 SMT members from across the province in the Advanced Diploma in School Leadership and Management with the University of Johannesburg (UJ), a two-year postgraduate qualification tailored for South African principalship. The contact session, which featured prominent UJ experts Professor Pierre Duplesis and Professor Raj Mestry, allowed participants to engage with cutting-edge leadership concepts and exchange insights with their peers.

Induction of Newly Appointed Departmental Heads (Monday, 23 September 2024 – Wednesday, 25 September 2024):
A three-day induction for 153 newly appointed Primary School Departmental Heads was conducted, covering essential aspects of their job descriptions such as curriculum management, instructional leadership, and turnaround strategies for underperforming departments. The induction empowered participants with the skills and knowledge to transform their schools into centers of excellence.

Induction of Newly Appointed Deputy Principals (Wednesday, 25 September 2024 – Friday, 27 September 2024):
The final event targeted 143 newly appointed Deputy Principals and focused on their roles as the second layer of leadership at school level. Participants were taken through their responsibilities and leadership expectations to equip them for their crucial role in school management.
These programs significantly contributed to enhancing leadership capacity within the province’s schools, fostering a culture of excellence and effective school management.
