The Women Economic Empowerment Dialogue got off a to great start with more than 350 women entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners gathering at Dr. Reginald Cingo Secondary School in Kroonstad.

The WWE Dialogue, held on 17 May 2025, is a flagship initiative aimed at supporting women in business – particularly Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and aspiring women in business – through access to information, mentorship, market opportunities, and government support systems.

The programme is a holistic investment in women’s ability to drive social transformation, economic participation, and educational outcomes in their communities.

As MEC Maboya ascended the stage to address the guests, she had this to say “Women bear the brunt of poverty and inequality. And it cascades to learners in schools, we can see it. More than 60% of learners come from female-headed households. And that directly impacts learner outcomes. Government is promoting inclusive growth and that talks to women as part of the people growing and benefiting from the economy of this country.

Empowering women economically is not just a moral imperative, but a strategic lever for:

  • Improving educational outcomes
  • Reducing poverty
  • Creating jobs
  • Strengthening families and communities
  • Stimulating local and regional economies

I officially declare the Women’s Economic Empowerment Dialogue inaugurated!”.
