Deputy Minister Gina launches technologies and innovations developed by and for People with Disabilities

 

MEC for Education, Dr. MJ Maboya, joined the deputy minister for Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, Honourable Nomalungelo Gina to officially launch technologies and innovations locally designed and developed by and for persons with disabilities in South Africa on behalf of Premier Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae on 5 August 2025 at Central University of Technology (CUT).

This was more than an event but an opportunity seeking to advance the rights for person’s living with disabilities, to better their livelihoods. It highlighted innovation and technology that works for the dignity, inclusion and success to transform the lives of persons with disabilities.

Innovation is a language of equality for everyone. It allows for anyone to have access in any space they want to be. This was groundbreaking initiative, occurring under the broader umbrella of South Africa’s G20. The G20 is leading with the theme of solidarity, equality and sustainability, a call for the inclusion of everyone, including person’s living with disabilities.

MEC for Education, Dr. Mantlhake Julia Maboya, delivering her address before presenting the Deputy Minister, indicated that the Premier and herself believe in the unwavering power of inclusive innovation.

Addressing learners, and delegates, Honourable Deputy Minister Gina, in her keynote address said “New technology can be inclusive and we are here today to demonstrate that. These innovations were created through collaboration, working with partners, such as government departments, NGO’s, private sector and Institutions of Higher Learning. They represent a future where no one is left behind in the 4th Industrial Revolution.”
