About 50 learners from Morena Mokopela, Seotlong, Weiveld and Boiphihlelo Secondary schools were present today for the launch of this program. Learners are exposed to theory and hands-on exposure and are already showing acquired knowledge while demonstrating what they are taught in this program.

With this program, they are not only receiving basic skills development, but a seed of hope is planted for the future.

Every Free State learner must finish Grade 12 with not only the NSC certificate but at least three additional certificates and this responds to MEC Maboya’s call for basic education that is responsive and inclusive for all learners.

Grade 10 learner, Oratilwe Motaung, from Morena Mokopela Secondary School spoke articulately on behalf of all learners in this program about how it has opened their eyes to new possibilities. Learning new skills that will not only benefit them but the society around them as well. Her knowledge, she says will ensure that she enhances, cherishes and grows the agriculture sector for years to come.

These learners will receive three SAQA-accredited certificates in sheep handling, animal health and good management.

MEC for Education, Dr. MJ Maboya said this, “the Agricultural Multi-Certification Programme is a game-changer. It declares that our learners will no longer be confined to a single pathway. It opens doors to higher education, employment, entrepreneurship, and dignity”.

In her conclusion, MEC Maboya declared the Agricultural Multi-Certification Program officially launched.
