Xhariep Education District Director, Mr. Velaphi Magwa
KOFFIEFONTEIN – On 21 February 2024, Xhariep District under the leadership of Director, Mr. Velaphi Magwa, celebrated the National Senior Certificate (NSC) results for the Class of 2025.
One of the smallest districts in the province in terms of numbers, the district has proven each and every year that it can stand tall with others. The hall at Diamanthoogte Combined School in Koffiefontein, was filled with gratitude as school principals, educators, top performing learners and officials received their accolades.
In his State of the District Address, Mr. Magwa emphasized how districts should perform at 90% and above and even put it to the MEC Dr Maboya that Xhariep will reach that target at the end of the year.
He also sent a word of gratitude to the sponsors for the Well Done Function; Assupol, Old Mutual, Standard Bank, Sanlam, Metropolitan, ABSA, Coca-Cola, Easy Pay, Office National, Bon Hotel Bloemfotein Central and Marematlou Training Institute, who conveyed their messages of support and reaffirmed their support to the district.
Addressing the guests during her keynote address, Dr Maboya said, “The 2025 NSC results for Xhariep therefore present a nuanced narrative: commendable achievement alongside measurable decline; stability alongside areas requiring targeted intervention. As a province ranked second nationally with an 89.3% pass rate, the Free State remains academically formidable.
Yet we must ensure that our future performance reflects both excellence and continuous improvement. Let this celebration be dignified and thoughtful. Let it inspire pride without complacency. Let it strengthen resolve without assigning blame.
